Inherent Challenges

• • We are aware that some injured employees lose their jobs post occupational injury and either go back to far flung rural areas or informal settlements where there are sometimes no postal services and electronic media.


• • Some communities are situated far away from labour centres making it difficult for them due to travel costs.


• • Sometimes medical reports are incongruent with the medical condition of the employee. Decisions that are made on claims are sometimes prejudicial to employees due to omission of vital information on medical reports.


• • Some employees struggle to understand the medical terminology, policy requirements and procedures due to lack of training and knowledge.


• • More often than not particularly in the farming areas and with some SMME, employees are not given payslips and do not have banking accounts.


• • Lack of IT infrastructure in the rural areas and informal settlements.


• • Delays in processing of claims by the Compensation Fund due to IT challenges.
